Fellow Members of Settle & Giggleswick Golf Club.
The past couple of months have seen a lot of golf played and a great deal of unusually warm, sunny, dry weather for early summer in the Dales.
Fixtures have been coming thick and fast; competitions, socials, Bronze and Dales League matches, and away days have all played their part in a feast of golfing fun over the past eight weeks.
There is so much opportunity for everyone to get involved in friendly competition at all levels. Details of all events are on our website or on the HowDidIDo website. If you’d like to take part but aren’t sure how to get involved, just drop me a line davidcolgrave@btinternet.com .
Recent competition highlights include:
Ladies’ Centenary Plate 26/04/25 – A strong performance by Greta Hargreaves with 31 points, beating second-placed Elaine Woolham by 7 points.
Men’s Centenary Cup 27/04/25 – A narrow victory for our hard-working Secretary, Peter Johnson, over John Read on a countback.
David Percy Memorial Trophy 3/05/25 – Won by Duncan Brown with a net 75, beating Alan Strickland by one shot.
Mixed Butterfield Cup 5/05/25 – Tony Runciman and Corinne Beck led the way with a 69.
CE Wright Trophy 19/06/25 – In-form Duncan Brown triumphed with 35 points over Peter Johnson, John Lassey and John Holliday, all on 33 points.
There was also a 3-1 win in the first round of the Dales League away at Kirkby Lonsdale, well done Nigel Green and team.
Three Counties Trophy 7/06/25– It was our turn to host this annual competition against Lansil and Casterton, and we used home advantage to come out on top this year!
Masham 21/06/25 – A fantastic tip with 10 mixed pairs heading up to Masham for this annual event. Unfortunately, we didn’t return with the trophy, but everyone had a great time, and it was a strong reminder of how enjoyable mixed golf is.
Alongside the competitions, there were a number of social trips away to various clubs, with a particular highlight being the three-day trip to Slaley Hall, expertly organised by Len Horrocks, with our esteemed President Dick Walker leading the way on results.
A reminder that the results of all competitions and entry to them are via the HowDidIDo app. If you would like to get involved, drop me or Peter Johnson (Club Secretary) a note, and I’ll point you in the right direction. davidcolgrave@btinternet.com or pjjohnson317@btinternet.com
Details of all club socials, fixtures and competitions can be found on our website Events page. This will also tell you if the course is closed for social golf.
Again, I would urge all members to obtain a handicap and give competitions a try, but I understand that many of you would prefer to play socially with friends and take a low-key approach to our wonderful sport. That’s cool too, and you can still meet up with other members at our social events.
Just get out there, grip and rip it!! Or… dot it down the middle, whichever is your thing. But do it with a smile and enjoy our amazing sport in our beautiful corner of the Dales.
